Lots of gardeners say we have too many garlics to choose from. Package Deals make your choices simpler. You choose the basic types and we'll choose the particular strain that's right for your area.
Just remember that:
Hardneck "Ophio" garlics include three varieties: Rocambole, Purple Stripe, and Porcelain. These types are more challenging to grow. They need good soil and good care, including seed head removal. Most people agree that hardneck garlics have more full bodied flavor that softnecks. But they don't store as long. Softneck garlics are of two varietal types. Artichokes are the easiest and most productive to grow, as well as the most adaptable to varying climates and soils. They store 8 to 10 months. Silverskins need better soil and prefer mild winter climates for best character. They store longest of any garlic, but they are also the hardest to peel.
The softneck sub-varieties: Creoles, Turbans and Asiatics also do best in milder climates. In other ways they are more like hardnecks.
Gardeners in extreme southern locales will not receive a Rocambole in their packs since they need freezing temperatures to do well. We will substitute a variety that should do better in your climate.Click Here to View Cart

We sell our smaller bulbs, those not large enough to be seed stock, as food. The only difference is the size. Smaller bulbs actually store longer than large bulbs and taste just as great. However, if you want bulbs 2 inches or better, you should buy our seed stock or buy them locally at a farmers' market or health food store. When we grade our garlic we sort smaller bulbs by variety. So we can tell you what variety a garlic is (Rocambole, Purple Stripe, Silverskin, etc) but not the invidual strain (Spanish Roja vs Carpathian, Romanian Red vs Zemo). If you want a specific named strain you should buy our seed stock.

Silverskin food garlic is somewhat stronger flavored. It is the longest storing garlic which can last 10 to 12 months under proper conditions.
