A Northwest heirloom brought from Italy by the Lorz family to the Columbia Basin in Washington State in the late 19th century. Well adapted to summer heat. Has more heat and better flavor than other Artichoke varieties. Large, sometimes flat-round bulbs. 12 to 19 cloves, not many small interior cloves.

INCHELIUM RED Bulk

A large bulbed and vigorous strain; our best selling Artichoke. In a 1990 taste test at Rodale kitchens this one was a top rated softneck. Discovered on the Colville Indian Reservation by Larry Geno; original source unknown. Four to five clove layers with 8 to 20 cloves. Bulbs over 3 inches possible. It seems to have higher soluble solids (i.e. denser, heavier bulbs) than other Artichokes. Mild but lingering flavor with a tingle. Inchelium has a somewhat flattened bulb-shape.

Our price: $7.50
EARLY RED ITALIAN Bulk

Dependable and attractive large bulbs. Robust grower with 11 to 21 cloves. Cloves fat, round and milk-white. Noted in southern Oregon at Telowa Farms as early maturing.

CHET‘S ITALIAN RED Bulk

Originally selected by Chet Stevenson from an abandoned garden site in Tonasket, Washington in the 1960's. 10 to 20 cloves in 4 clove layers. A good raw garlic for folks who want garlic flavor without being overpowered, but extreme winter cold makes it hot, strong, and full flavored. Does not do well when overly wet in last month before harvest.
